Individual membership of Sanctuary UK is marketed very much on the National Trust model: an ‘altruistic’ annual donation towards a conservation agenda is rewarded with special privileges. A £30 annual subscription allows access to some paying cathedral and English Heritage sites, but with few churches charging admission, perks are generally of a different order. Some of them are offered locally as part of a Sanctuary UK recruitment package. Members have a smart card which enables them to take advantage of adhoc offers (some online) and to record their own ‘pilgrimage’ around Sanctuary UK churches.
